In an odd trend that appears to have grown in popularity in the past few years, it is now virtually impossible to attend a concert without hearing the audience chant the word ‘SHOEEEEEY’, which will be done until the artist either tells the crowd to fuck off or submits to their pleas.

The humble shoey is alleged to have started in the early 1900s as either a bringer of good fortune (drinking champagne from a woman’s slipper) or hazing ritual, and has since made its way into sports such as the UFC, Cricket and the NRL, and most notably, Formula One, thanks to Aussie driver, Daniel Ricciardo.

However, though doing shoeys at sporting events or as a dare at the pub has always been for a bit of a laugh, it has weirdly found itself into being a common staple at concerts, where it’s now evolved into a manic mob peer pressuring international artists into performing an Aussie litmus test -and treating them to a loud groan and further heckling should they not comply (which is made even more embarrassing as none of these artists know what a fucking shoey is).

So prolific is this ritual, that artists have are now being forewarned to pack a new pair of shoes should they decide to tour Australia, or forgo touring the nation entirely unless they want to be branded a pussy.

It’s understand that Australian’s now have absolutely no foot to stand on when it comes to whinging about artists not including us on their world tours, including Queen Bey herself, who has rumoured to have deliberately excluded the sunburnt country from her Renaissance tour for this very reason.

More to come.
