A Hottest 100 house party is pumping in the French Quarter this afternoon, as a rabble of young revellers tune in for the most culturally significant music moment of the year.

With eskies full of Mango Seltzers and a Bunnings fold out table loaded with an assortment of hummus dips and corn chips, 48 Veja Street in Betoota’s student district is reportedly the place to be this Saturday afternoon.

A house party filled with local arts students, friends of friends, and a few backpackers who scored an invite via one of the housemates that works in a bar, the mood continues to build as the youth of Betoota wait to see if Flume will take out the top prize, or will the dark influence of TikTok will finally massacre the countdown.

But for 26-year-old textiles student Alice Bridges, today’s countdown is less about the music, and more about reminding all of her mates that she went to “that Splendour” and survived a weekend in Byron Parklands swimming in pools of mud.

Dressed in flared blue jeans, some retro Reebok runners and a cute top she picked up on Depop, witnesses say Alice continued to relate every song to her experience at Australia’s answer to Coachella.

“Oh my god, what a track!” she squealed as a quirky bop began to blare across the speakers courtesy of Western Australian producer Methyl Ethel.

“They were soooo good at Splendour, I was like right up the front, totally covered in mud, haha!”

More tunes to come.
