United Nations level negotiations are taking place in the smokers area of a West Betoota pub tonight as a local bloke attempts to broker a deal to watch both games of Friday Night Footy.

After toiling all week as a maintenance technician at a Diamantina devon factory, local man Cam Bret-Mullins has found himself five beers deep into his favorite kind of Friday night, watching the footy at a venue with beer-soaked carpet and a minimal regard for RSA laws.

And while he was meant to have one or two pretty chill beers with some workmates, The Advocate understands things have quickly picked up the pace when his rugby team chat fired up, and half the backline decided to join him inside the Railway Hotel.

Now, with half of the first game of Friday Night Footy over and a top-of-the-table clash to come, it’s understood Cam has taken the bold but necessary step of calling his girlfriend back home and letting her know it’s best if she just leaves the keys out.

“Babe, I’m thinking I might stay for a few more…” Cam tempted, as he tried to find a quiet corner of the smokers’ area.

“There’s not much going on, but it’d be good to catch up with the boys, ya know?” said Cam, who knew very well he was about to spend all of Saturday with the very same people he was currently drinking copious amounts of schooners with.

Picking up that tonight’s sidestep into “beers with the boys” territory might be contentious, Cam decided to enter full negotiation mode and put an offer on the table he knew his Misso couldn’t refuse.

“But let’s do nice things tomorrow. How about we go to the farmers’ markets? There’s actually a wine and cheese fair happening at the showgrounds tomorrow, and it’s right next to the natural candle expo at the entertainment centre. We could go there too, if you want!”
More to come.
