After starting a new role as an intern at one of Betoota’s top hedge funds, Jessica Mansur (21) has today successfully executed her first interaction with the company’s CEO.

The run in occurred in the hallway, as Jessica explains, they were both trying to get past each other, but became engaged in an awkward dance. It was at this point, the Advocate understands, that Jess delivered the stroke of comedic genius.

“Where’d you learn to dance like that?” Quipped Jess with an uncharacteristically assertive tone, briefly forgetting that she was speaking to a man that could either make or break her career in a second.

“Oh my god. It was as if time stood still. I started to get all hot and my skin prickled, it was a modern day flight or fight response and I was definitely ready for flight”

But Jess’s panic was eased as the CEO let out a brief laugh, acknowledging Jess’s quick wit.

“That’s a good one” he said.

This was the end of the encounter, but for Jess, her adrenaline levels were spiked for at least another 3 hours.

“I got back to my desk and I was shaking, I couldn’t believe I just pulled that off! My Apple Watch even thought I’d done exercise my heart rate was so high!”

Starting a new job is nerve racking at the best of times, but if you want to make a good first impression and make it in the business – walking up to the CEO with a good one liner is definitely the way to go.

More to come.
