As a late-20s surfwear retailer based of the Gold Coast, Porl Griffith says he likes to mix it up a bit.

While doing everything within his power to not make a weekend trip to Brisbane or Byron, Porl needs to stick to the narrative that ‘The GC’ is a place that can be enjoyed by young people. Not just overweight suburban families and 2nd-marriage bucks parties.

Since relocating to the Goldie over 18 months ago, Griffo has spent the last 79 Saturdays in a row at ‘his mates bar’ where he rotates between sitting opposite the bartender and going outside to blow obnoxiously large vape clouds.

However, his most recent weekend activities show that the young regional Victorian expat is really settling in quite nicely to life on the Glitter Strip.

While sprawled alongside some new mates on the grassy Burleigh Hill at sunset, with a bottle Rock and Timber Pale Ale in his hand, Porl remarks on how good it is to do something different on a Saturday.

“Surf was shit this morning. But this is alright, hey” he says to his mates, all three named Joel.

“Good to do something different on a Saturday”

“We only usually do this on a Sunday”
