The Australian Federal Police are today reporting that their highly intrusive raids of the ABC were all for nothing, after being held up at the revolving door by a valiant Barrie Cassidy.

Cassidy, known for his work as host and creator of the ground-breaking Sunday morning discussion program Insiders for over two decades, reportedly took three AFP arrows to the chest while stalling the police officers – in one final heroic act before retiring from his position.

“I’ll hold them. Get yourselves to safety” Cassidy shouted at younger ABC staff.

“We must protect the journalistic integrity of our public broadcaster”

Ita Buttrose has paid tribute to Barrie Cassidy today as a noble character who believed passionately in the greatness of the public broadcaster and fought indomitably for it.

“I would have followed you, my brother. My captain. My king.” said Buttrose.

“They will look for his coming from the Ultimo Tower. But he will not
return.”

As a member of the ABC old stock, a desperation to get back into fly-fishing ultimately drove him to betray his companions and attempt to seize retirement, but he was redeemed by his repentance and brave last stand.
