The stars have aligned for the girls, the gays, the theys and their fabulous allies across Australia today.

This comes as the 96th Oscar awards lands on the day they all unanimously decided to chuck a sickie.

As questions begin to be raised within workplaces around the nation as to the whereabouts of their queer staff, the post Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi-Gras blues have found themselves sprawled out on the couch, watching The Oscars.

The Oscars, generally held in between late February and early March have landed on the perfect day for some of Australia’s greatest fans of all things Hollywood.

An anonymous member of The Academy has stated this wasn’t a coincidence.

“We are well aware that our biggest demographic in Australia is the Queer community, we wanted to give them something to watch while they come down from one of the biggest events on their calendar.”

The decision has been met with widespread appreciation, as Australia’s LGBTI community nurse their sore feet, mild dehydration and embarrassment at things they said over the weekend with a steady diet of red carpet fashion and acceptance speeches.

There have even been reports of those still partying from Mardi Gras hosting “Oscars kick ons”

“The Academy knew we needed a soft landing after the weekend, and they delivered.” Said Tom Coates (46), a veteran Mardi Gras attendee.

Meanwhile, office managers across the city are reportedly raising eyebrows at the suspiciously high number of Monday sick calls.

For now, the perfect remedy for post-Mardi Gras exhaustion seems to be a couch and the comfort of rich celebrities winning awards in GORGEOUS dresses. Also Anora won best director and best actress. And best film.
