Tropical Cyclone Alfred continues towards Queensland’s southern coastline, as local residents continue their diligent preparations for a potentially major weather event.

Originally forecast to make landfall tonight or early Friday morning, the cyclone has slowed down it’s approach, which in turn has seen it intensify. Experts predict the storm could cross the coast later tomorrow or even Saturday.

It is with unspoken excitement that Queenslanders are currently sandbagging their homes, schools and local businesses, as every resident rolls up their sleeves and gets stuck in.

While the Cyclone’s delay has given Queenslanders more time to prepare, it’s still forecast to make landfall as a category two storm.

In turn, all of these ever changing predictions and meteorological observations are being relayed on the ground at local council depots, as buzzing Queenslanders shovel up over 400,000 sand bags, and begin dusting off the diesel generators.

As Premier David Crisafulli fronts multiple press conferences each day, and Prime Minister Albanese flies up for briefings, it’s hard to deny that Queenslanders secretly love this shit.

While everybody knows that these tropical weather events often bring with them devastating and tragedy, it doesn’t change the fact that Queenslanders really enjoy taking two weeks off work to shovel mud and drink mid strength beer while their phone reception and power grid is cut off completely.

In ever better news, schools, businesses, public transport, and more have closed in south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales – meaning that nobody needs to be anywhere but at home, breaking a sweat and feeling useful.

Neighbours will become lifelong friends, and the elderly will be met with constant door knocks from the youngsters who are just checking in to see if everything is alright.

The ABC radio and TV are turned up to full bore, and anyone with a ute and a shovel is relishing in their new local hero status.

QUEENSLANDER!!!!!
