A new study conducted while doom-scrolling on TikTok has confirmed what the global sisterhood has known for years: Carrie Bradshaw, despite her iconic wardrobe and endless monologues, is, in fact, a terrible friend.

The groundbreaking research examined Bradshaw’s behaviour across six seasons and two movies, ultimately concluding that she’s the type of friend who’s always there—as long as you’re not actually going through anything.

“Carrie’s defining traits are selfishness and emotional unavailability,” said lead researcher Dr. Jemma McDonald. “She’s constantly prioritising her own drama, whether it’s her obsession with Big or her endless commitment to making her entire life about ‘finding the one.’”

While Bradshaw may have been quick to offer unsolicited advice on relationships (often involving shoe shopping or drunken brunches), the study found her track record of showing up for her friends—especially when they need it most—leaves much to be desired.

“I loved her, but every time something happened to me, she’d just go off on some tangent about her column,” said Samantha Jones, a New York City local woman who, like many, once admired the Sex and the City protagonist.

“It’s like, honey, your whole life is a monologue. Some of us need a real friend.”

The study also found that Carrie’s friends, while infinitely more supportive and emotionally aware, are somehow always left picking up the pieces of her “complicated” love life.

Despite the mounting evidence against her, Carrie Bradshaw remains beloved by millions, with fans still convinced that her “quirks” are part of her charm.

“Yeah, she might cancel on you last minute to chase after a man who’s definitely going to break her heart again, but she does wear great shoes,” said one fan, still holding onto the fantasy of Carrie being the ultimate BFF.

More to come.
