After a perfect summer wedding surrounded by dozens of family and close friends, a local rugby star has kept track of her amazing weight-gain journey via social media.

With the whole town behind her, Emmer ‘Stagecoach’ Montague is slowly making her way back to her old fighting weight ahead of the season opener against Winton this weekend.

The Betoota Dolphemmes RUFC prop took some time out of her busy daily regime to speak to The Advocate about her journey, which is inspiring countless young Betootanese women to realise their potential.

“Like most women do, I trimmed up a bit for the big day and the honeymoon and all that shit, but at the end of the day, the number three jersey chooses you, you don’t choose it,” she said.

“I’ve put a lot of hard work and training into getting back to my old weight. We props are the foundation of the scrum and the pillars and posts at each breakdown. Without quality props, you can’t win a game of rugby union football.”

As well as her daily training sessions, which include weight and cardio programmes, the 29-year-old enforcer has also dramatically increased her intake of Pinot Gris and cheese.

Emmer and her new hubby, local solicitor and Dolphins strength and conditioning coach, Gavin Montague, work their way through a carton of high-carbohydrate beer and white wine each week.

Supplemented by a smörgåsbord of soft cheeses and Jatz biscuits, the couple also enjoy a rotation of pasta-based dishes twice daily.

“Today it’s lasagne and carbonara,” she said.

“Tomorrow is our cheat day, so we’re Elvis’ favourite sandwich, the Fool’s Gold. It basically consists of a single warmed, hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with the contents of one jar of creamy peanut butter and one jar of jam, and a kilogramme of bacon.”

“I can wait to fuck up those Winton girls come Saturday.”

More to come.
