HE IS RIGHT AND EVERYBODY ELSE is wrong – Peter Hall knows everything there is to know about World War II, more than some chinless Brisbane trivia host who’s only trying to earn his hundred clams and go home.
Sometimes he even does trivia on his own, just to prove a point.
“What was the Allied codename for the Normandy landings on Omaha Beach in 1944?”
That question, number seven for the evening, sent Mr Hall into a fluster of confusion and sincere fury.
Unknown to the quizmaster, there’s actually two possible answers to that question, not that he cares.
“Well,” said Peter. “That’s not a real question. Because it could be Operation Overlord, which is all encompassing of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944,”
“Or it could be specific to Omaha Beach, which in itself is a codename,”
“It’s this type of jackaroo bullshit that makes me want to stay at home and yell at the television.”
However, this isn’t the first time the New Farm IT professional genius has had an issue with a trivia host. In 2011, he was convicted of trying to slit a quizmaster’s throat with a steak knife at the nearby Regatta Hotel on the other side of the river.
The question that set him off there was related to his favourite band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. When the trivia host read out the answers, he stated that their 2006 smash single Dani California was their best selling single.
“It’s Under the fucking Bridge. For fucks sake. Do you know how hard it is to be clever is Brisbane? No wonder anybody worth a shit gets out of here and only comes home for funerals and Christmas,” he yelled.
