Prime Minister Tony Abbott will face a spill motion against his leadership early next week after West Australian Liberal MP Luke Simpkins emailed party room colleagues to announce he would push for the PM’s leadership to be put to a vote.

The spill motion will be seconded by MP Don Randall, with a third WA Liberal, Dennis Jensen, saying he will support it.

In light of this afternoon’s news, our editors, Clancy Overell and Errol Parker left the safe harbour of Betoota and hit the road for Canberra.

The pair left Betoota at 1:35pm and are expected to arrive in the capital on Sunday – representing independent media in the most important political event since the (yet to be decided) Queensland election last week.

As one of only a handful of independent media outlets working in Canberra next week, The Advocate will be the wellspring of unhinged and brave reporting from the steps of Parliament House.

This also marks the transition from print media to the world of broadcast news for the Betoota Advocate – arriving in the capital for the first time, ready to debunk any rumours put forward by the ABC and Murdoch Press that Mr. Parker and Mr. Overell don’t actually exist.

  1. I used to rely on the NT News to keep me up to date with all the breking news.

My first port of call is now the Betoota Advocate.

It is great to see that in the age of the internet there are a few journalists that are prepared to go the extra mile to bring the tough stories to the atention of the public.

    Journalism at its finest.
