As of today, former NFL running back and Parramatta Eels icon, Jarryd Hayne, has reportedly signed a shock two-year deal with the Gold Coast Titans.
The new contract makes Hayne the biggest star to ever play for the Titans. According to reports, Hayne has signed a multi-million dollar deal with the Titans to make him the highest paid player in the history of the league.
Hayne will reportedly earn $1.2 million per season with the Titans, as well as several other ‘bonuses’ thrown in to help the rugby league great ‘settle in’ to the Gold Coast.
Speaking to the Advocate today, Hayne’s manager Hillsong pastor Father Brian Houston revealed that the Titans had agreed to pay for Jarryd Hayne’s living expenses in a Gold Coast canal mansion of his choosing, and on top of that had agreed to spot the costs associated with the mandatory sleeve tattoo expected from Gold Coast players.
“[Hayne] has not yet decided between a gothic art piece of lions and skulls, or the generic tribal look that most of the players around here ink themselves with” said the Pastor and founder of the controversial Hillsong Church.
“But on top of the tattoo and the housing costs, they have agreed to fit out his garage with a pill press”
“What he does with the pill press is up to him. But the club has acknowledged that most people on the Gold Coast who earn over $1.2 million a year usually own one of these things,”
The bombshell news follows reports Parramatta offered the 28-year-old a three-year deal worth $2.5 million using the money and salary cap space that was vacated by former Eels playmaker Kieran Foran.
Hayne’s new deal has reportedly been structured in a way that would allow the former Kangaroos international to make a shock return for the Titans this season — if the club is granted approval by the NRL. Father Houston says he can’t see an issue here.
“The club is owned by the NRL. All this money he’s being paid is NRL money. Of course they are going to sign off on this”
