Homecoming NBA star Andrew Bogut has reportedly been injured signing his contract with the Sydney Kings today with team doctors all but ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

The 33-year-old is returning to Australia after a long and decorated career in the highest and toughest basketball competition on the planet – but it wasn’t without its speed bumps.

Bogut is often touted as one of the sport’s unluckiest players, with a number of shocking injuries coming at the worst possible times.

The most major being a broken right hand, sprained wrist and dislocated elbow all at the same time back in 09-10. As a result of that injury, Bogut now shoots with his left.

Which makes these recent developments especially heartbreaking for barnstorming Melbournese centre.

“It’s not looking great,” said Sydney Kings physician, Mr Lewis Frost.

“Just as he lay the biro pen down, we all heard a loud crack. I looked down and Andrew’s left arm looked as floppy as a freshly microwaved cheese stick. Just wobbling about while he screamed his giant lungs out,”

“Very disappointing for Andrew. At the moment, it looks like a fracture of the humerus, radius, scaphoid and a growth plate in the wrist. I don’t know how he did it but it seems like this type of bad luck follows Andrew around,”

“It’s early days now but we’re expecting Andrew to be sidelined for the rest of this season.”

The head coach of the Sydney Kings has reportedly reacted to the news poorly.

Andrew Gaze, who took up the position at the Kings in 2016, has also had a long and illustrious career in domestic basketball – but this afternoon, it all went pare-shaped.

Gaze allegedly trashed his North Sydney office before storming out.

The Advocate reached out to the NBL for comment – but have yet to receive a reply.

More to come.
